Soon after, the couple made their final appearance in Colombia, taking to the stage at the Petronio Music Festival in Cali, the world’s largest tribute to Afro-Colombian heritage.
Meghan once again addressed the crowd in Spanish and they were given a bottle of Viche, a local drink from the Pacific region, and a wooden marimba, symbolizing their connection to Colombian music.
In an online message, Prince Harry and Meghan said they “would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the organizers of the event, to Vice President Francia Márquez and to the entire Colombian community for their incredible hospitality and for an unforgettable trip.”
The visit to Colombia came after an invitation from Vice President Márquez, who said she was “deeply moved” by their story, as detailed in the controversial Harry and Meghan Netflix documentary.
She watched the six-part series in 2022 and thought a visit from Meghan would “empower so many women around the world”.
The series aired just months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II and detailed the Sussexes’ departure from the royal family.
Speaking to Colombian media on the first day of the visit, Márquez said: “This is their first visit to Latin America. The aim of the visit is to build bridges and open doors that will allow us to join forces to raise awareness and address a global problem that concerns us all: cyberbullying in digital environments and discrimination, which pose a risk to the mental health of everyone around the world.
